Murphy places second in barrel racing Saturday in Alpine

ALPINE — Allie Murphy placed second in barrel racing as the South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams placed four in the finals of the Sul Ross State University Rodeo over the weekend at the SALE Arena.

Murphy posted a 15.99 in the long round followed by a 15.88 in the finals to finish with a 31.87 average and 140 points for South Plains.

Brey Yore placed sixth in tiedown roping for the Texans, clocking a 9.3 in the long round and a 10.6 in the finals, notching 55 points. South Plains' Camillo Rios took seventh in calf roping, running a 9.7 in the long round but no timed in the finals Saturday night.

Dawson Loewen placed eighth in steer wrestling, turning in a 5.1 in the long round but no timed in the finals, finishing with 50 points.

The Texans finished eighth on the weekend with 105 points, while the Lady Texans placed sixth with 140 points. South Plains will be back in the arena next weekend when they travel to Vernon for the Vernon College Rodeo, slated for Sept. 28-30.
