GULF SHORES, AL — The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams each placed third on Saturday at the NJCAA Half Marathon National Championships at the Orange Beach Sports Complex as freshman Gladys Jemaiyo was crowned national champion after winning the women's division with a time of 1:21:16.
The Lady Texans placed four runners inside the top 25 including Dorcus Ewoi who placed ninth with a time of 1:27:19. Nyia Sena turned in a time of 1:33:23 to take 16th for South Plains, while freshman Angela Rodriguez placed 23rd with her time of 1:38:42.
El Paso Community College won the women's division with 13 points, followed by Iowa Central (14), South Plains (26), Pasco Hernando State (51), and Ranger College (57).
Sophomore Filmon Beyene led the Texans with a fourth place overall finish as the Texans had three runners place in the top 15. Beyene earned All-American honors with his fourth-place finish as he was the first runner across the line for South Plains in a time of 1:09:43. Andrew Bosquez took 11th overall with a time of 1:12:49, while Jesse Madrid turned in a time of 1:13:28, good enough for 13th.
El Paso won the men's division with nine points, with Iowa Central taking second with 15 points, while South Plains took third (28), followed by Ranger College (34) and Vincennes (34).
