No. 2 South Plains to host Texan Classic Nov. 16-17 at the Texan Dome

LEVELLAND — The second-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team will look to extend their win streak to five games when they make their home debut on Friday at the Texan Classic at the Texan Dome.

South Plains will square off with North Lake College at 7 p.m. on Nov. 16 followed by a matchup with Coastal Bend College on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com. In the first game Friday, Coastal Bend will take on New Mexico Military Institute at 5 p.m, Saturday will see North Lake and New Mexico Military Institute tip off at 12 p.m.

South Plains touted a pair of victories last weekend in Liberal, KS at the Pepsi Classic on the campus of Seward Community College. The Texans bested Seward 79-76 on Nov. 9 before pummeling Dodge City 108-69 to improve to 4-0 on the year.

Deon Barett scored a season-high 20 points against Dodge City, bucketing 7 of 9 shots from the field including a 4-for-5 mark from the 3-point line in 19 minutes of action. Sophomore big man Gaige Prim recorded his fourth double-double of the year netting 17 points to go along with 13 boards. Prim knocked down six of his 10 attempts from the field and finished with a season-high five blocked shots.

Sophomore sharpshooter Jonah Antonio tallied 17 points over 27 minutes, bucketing 7 of 10 attempts from the field and was 3 of 5 from behind the arc. South Plains' Dajour Joseph netted 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting while Christian Wilson finished with eight and Trey Wade bucketed seven.

North Lake College comes into the tournament with a 1-4 record after falling to Midland College and Odessa College a week ago in Midland. The Blazers average just 63.8 points per game and are shooting 36.5 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from the 3-point line.

Coastal Bend enters the weekend with a record of 2-1including a 104-99 victory over Victoria College in their last outing on Nov. 9. The Cougars are averaging 95.3 points per game, shooting 44.1 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from the perimeter.
