No. 15 Lady Texans set for Pepsi Classic Nov. 9-10 in Kansas

LEVELLAND — After a 3-0 start to begin the year in Odessa, the No. 15 ranked South Plains College women's basketball team will be back on the road this weekend when they travel to Seward County Community College for the Pepsi Classic Nov. 9-10.

The Lady Texans will tipoff against Seward County on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with Dodge City at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com.

South Plains proved worthy of their preseason ranking following three double-digit wins to begin the year. Led by sophomore Kiki Hunter, the Lady Texans thumped Tohono O'odham 75-59 in their opening contest as Hunter recorded 16 points and 16 boards in 19 minutes of action. Hunter would follow up with a 24 point, 17 rebound performance in the Lady Texan's 82-23 victory over Colorado Northwestern.

Hunter would record her third consecutive double-double in a 13 point, 11 rebound performance when the Lady Texans bested Mesa Community College 56-38 on Nov. 3. Ruth Koang tallied 13 points and six boards against the Lady Thunderbirds while Caroline Germond netted seven and Chantel Govan finished with six.

Seward County enters the weekend with a 2-0 record after defeating Western Nebraska 74-64 in their season opener on Nov. 2 before downing Bethany College JV 95-36 on Nov. 3. The Lady Saints are averaging 84.5 points per game and shooting 42.5 percent from the field. Seward is led by sophomore Silvia Veloso who enters the weekend averaging 17.5 points per game after two games. Sophomore Lexi Hernandez scored in double figures twice on the year and is averaging 12.points per game including a 47.6 shooting mark from the floor on the year.
