No. 2 Texans travel to Kansas Nov. 9-10 for the Pepsi Classic

LEVELLAND — Following a 2-0 start to being the season in Dallas at the Texas East-West Challenge, the second-ranked South Plains College men's team will return to the hardwood Nov. 9-10 in Liberal, Kansas at the Pepsi Classic on the campus of Seward County Community College.

The Texans will tipoff against Seward County on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m., followed by a matchup with Dodge City on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com.

South Plains scored two double-digit victories to begin the year as they bested Jacksonville College 87-65 in their opening contest before downing Panola College 79-64 on Sunday night. Sophomore big man Gaige Prim recorded a double-double in both contests as he finished with 28 points and 18 boards against Jacksonville and 19 points and 20 rebounds against Panola.

Sophomore Chris Orlina tallied a career-high against Panola as he led all scorers with 25 points and 11 rebounds, finished 6 of 15 from the field and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Trey Wade also recorded double-digit scoring figures for South Plains, netting 14 points and 10 rebounds, knocking down 6 of his 13 attempts from the floor including a pair of 3s.

Seward County enters the weekend 2-0 on the year after picking up wins against Northern Oklahoma College and Lamar Community College a week ago. The Saints averaged 72.5 points in the two games and are shooting 42.2 percent from the field and just 19.6 percent from the perimeter. Isiah Small leads the Saints in scoring with 16 points per game and is shooting 59.1 percent from the floor.
