91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays day one recap

AUSTIN — Despite inclement weather throughout the day, day one of the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays got underway Wednesday with the decathlon and heptathlon at Mike A. Meyers Stadium.

Asani Hylton and Patrick Johnson were the two sole competitors for the orange and blue competing against 16 Div. I athletes in the decathlon Wednesday afternoon. With five events complete, Hylton sits in 11th overall with 3778 points while Johnson is 16th with 3152. Wichita State's Hunter Veith is currently in first with 4398 points, followed by Scott Fllip of Rice who's in second with 4286 points.

Hylton placed inside the top 10 in four events including sixth-place finishes in the long jump and high jump events. Hylton soared 23' 2.75" in the men's long jump on his third attempt and cleared 6' 4.75" in the high jump. Hylton also placed 10th in the 100 meters with a time of 11.02 and 10th in the 400 meters with a 50.01.

Johnson also capped day one with a pair of top 10 finishes including a sixth place overall finish in the 400 meters, clocking a final time of 49.04. Johnson would follow up with an eighth-place finish in the 100 meters, crossing the line at 10.98.

The men's decathlon will continue on Thursday morning beginning with the 110-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. and running events will get underway at 4:30 p.m.
