South Plains to do battle with New Mexico Junior College Thursday on Hockley County School Employees Credit Union Night at the Texan Dome

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's basketball teams return to the hardwood on Thursday night as they play host to New Mexico Junior College on Hockley County School Employees Credit Union Night at the Texan Dome.

The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30. HCSECU will be serving a complimentary fajita dinner for all SPC employees beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the Dome Floor. At halftime of each game, HCSECU will be giving away three (3) $100.00 cash prizes to SPC employees in attendance (must be present to win). Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com with pregame set for 5:30 p.m.

The Texans enter Thursday night with an overall record of 17-7 including a 9-3 mark in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. South Plains has won three of its last four including a 78-75 victory over New Mexico Military Institute on Monday night in Roswell. In their first matchup with the Thunderbirds on Jan. 15 in Hobbs, Isaiah Maurice and Raymond double each record double-doubles as the Texans pounded NMJC 69-58.

Maurice netted 13 points to go along with 14 boards and Doby added 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Texas Tech signee Deshawn Corprew bucketed 12 points and corralled seven boards while William Washington chipped in 10 points and grabbed four rebounds over 22 minutes. New Mexico enters Thursday's contest with an overall record of 14-11 and is 3-8 in the WJCAC as they have lost seven of their last eight games.

The Lady Texans will look to get back in the win column against a Lady Thunderbirds team currently ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA national poll. Currently 15-11 on the year and 2-8 in the WJCAC, South Plains battled the Lady Thunderbirds in their first meeting on Jan. 15 as NMJC used a late rally to pick up a 63-49 win over the Lady Texans. Shooting 41.3 percent from the field on the year, South Plains is 8-3 on their home court as they look to knock off a top-five program Thursday night.

Averaging 77.1 points per game, the fourth-ranked Lady Thunderbirds are 24-1 on the year and 8-1 in conference. New Mexico is 11-1 on the year and has won three of their last four in the WJCAC, most recently on Monday in Snyder when they downed Western Texas 56-48. New Mexico's Alexes Bryant ranks fourth nationally with 17.6 points per and fifth in the WJCAC, averaging 16.8 points per game in conference play.
