South Plains to battle Broncos Monday night in Roswell

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Monday night in a conference road matchup with New Mexico Military Institute at 6:30 p.m. MST.

The game will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio will call the courtside action, with pregame set for 6:15 p.m. MST.

South Plains enters the contest with an overall record of 16-7 including an 8-3 mark in the WJCAC. The Broncos come into Monday night with a record of 15-10 and are 5-6 in conference play.

In their first meeting on Jan. 11 in Levelland, South Plains shot 50 percent from the floor and held the Broncos to a 40 percent mark from the field, but 20 turnovers on the offensive end was too much to overcome. New Mexico Military utilized 15 offensive boards and capitalized on second-chance opportunities as they outrebounded the Texans 39-33 on the glass.

South Plains' Isaiah Maurice chipped in 13 points and grabbed four rebounds and Chris Orlina finished with 13 points and five boards in 33 minutes. Sophomore Raymond Doby totaled 11 points and eight boards, knocking down five of his seven attempts from the field while Deshawn Corprew tallied seven points and handed out three assists.

The Broncos placed four players in double-digit scoring figures as Jordyn Owens scored a team-high 16 points in 29 minutes. Trevelin Queen tallied 15 points despite shooting just 1 of 9 from 3 in 36 minutes. Rosel Hurley finished with 12 points and four boards while Atem Bior recorded 11 points and eight boards in 27 minutes of action.

Despite falling to Howard in their last outing on Feb. 8, South Plains has won five of its last seven in conference play. The Broncos will be looking to rebound from an 84-66 loss against Odessa on Feb. 8, as they have lost two of their last three outings.

Following Monday's contest, the Texans will return home on Thursday when they square off with New Mexico Junior College on Hockley County Schools Employee Credit Union night at the Texan Dome. The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30.
