WJCAC Basketball Spotlight: South Plains hosts Clarendon Thursday night at the Texan Dome

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's basketball teams will return to the hardwood on Thursday when they host Clarendon College at the Texan Dome. The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action.

The Lady Texans will be looking for their second consecutive win in conference play following a 53-51 victory over Western Texas on Jan. 18 at the Dome. The Lady Texans come into the contest averaging 67.5 points per game and are 7-1 at home this season.

Sitting at 14-7 on the year and 1-4 in the WJCAC, South Plains will look to slow down a Lady Bulldog team averaging 82.9 points per game. Clarendon is 18-3 on the season and 2-3 in conference including wins over Odessa and Howard College. The Lady Bulldogs are 9-1 on the road this season and have scored at least 75 points in four of their last five games.

The Texans enter Thursday with a 13-5 record including a 5-1 mark in conference play. South Plains is averaging 79.3 points per game and is 5-2 at home this season. The Texans have won four of their last five including wins over Howard, New Mexico, and Western Texas. South Plains is shooting 49 percent from the field on the year and will look to halt a Bulldog offense averaging 82.3 points per game.

Clarendon is 14-6 on the year and 4-2 in the WJCAC with wins over Howard and New Mexico Junior College. The Bulldogs are shooting 42.3 percent from the field after 20 games and are averaging 89.6 points per game in their last three outings.
