Williams and McDonald named Men's and Women's USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

LEVELLAND—In their final meet before the 2017 Outdoor National Championships on May 18-20 in Hutchinson, Ka., the South Plains College track and field teams wanted to tighten up any loose ends in Lubbock at the Masked Rider Open this past weekend.

Mission accomplished.

Sophomore javelin extraordinaire Adrian Williams and 400-meter specialist Natassha McDonald were named the Men's and Women's NJCAA Div. I USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Williams, who came into the meet with the top mark in the country, set a new personal best with a heave of 227' 6", claiming the event title. Williams will use the next week to prepare to defend his crown following last season's championship performance in which he was named national champion with a mark of 216' 6" in the men's javelin at the national meet in Levelland.

In her first season on the South Plains, McDonald has become accustomed to seeing her name listed amongst the top athletes in the country. After earning National Athlete of the Week honors earlier in the year, the freshman from Toronto out did herself once again over the weekend as she set the top mark in the country and diminished a field of Div. I athletes with a time of 52.59 in the women's 400 meters. McDonald will look to do the same when she travels to Kansas to help the No. 3 ranked Lady Texans bring home another title.
