LEVELLAND—After compiling one of the most dominant offensive seasons in school history during the 2016-17 campaign, sophomore sharpshooter Jordan Brangers was named an NJCAA First-Team All-American on Thursday.

The 6-foot-2 3-point specialist from Radcliff, Kentucky played an instrumental role in helping the Texans earn a No. 1 national ranking for 16 consecutive weeks during the regular season and a birth in the 2017 NJCAA Men's Basketball Final Four. Brangers will get the opportunity to represent the Texans one more time as he was one of 12 sophomores selected to the 2017 NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game which will take place on April 29 at 4:30 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Being a first-team All-American is a huge accomplishment, and that was one of my goals when I came here this summer," Brangers said. "Being selected to the all-star game as one of the top players in the country is a great honor for me. I worked hard all summer and put in countless hours in the gym during the season and it all paid off."

Brangers showcased the ability to hit from nearly anywhere on the floor as he led the nation with 151 3-balls, shattering Marshall Henderson's previous school record of 128 3s in 2012. Brangers broke the school record for 3s in a single game during a 38-point performance on Feb. 16 against New Mexico Military Institute at the Texan Dome in which he finished 10-of-15 from the 3-point line in the Texans' 108-69 dismantling of the Broncos.

Brangers' 710 total points ranked fourth in the country along with his 256 total field goals which ranked sixth best in the NJCAA. He also ranked inside the top 20 with his 20.9 points per game average.

"This is just one accolade that I can put on my list," Brangers said. "I really need to keep working hard. It's a great accomplishment, but I don't want it to be my last accomplishment. It's a great feeling knowing that I get to put that South Plains jersey on one more time and represent our team and the entire school."
